MEET ANGIE
The reason I chose to run was to enact change, as a resident, as a mother, and as a community member. I want to bring forth awareness, access and change to the residents of Houston. I want fair and equal access to our area businesses, small business owners and entrepreneurs. I will ensure our seniors have access to the city services and partners with entities to bring resources to those in need. I will collaborate with city departments to ensure departmental transparency and transparency in city spending. Furthermore, as a former fortune 500 bank executive, I will ensure that we are managing the needs of the city responsibly and attracting future companies for the increase of wealth opportunities for everyone.
As the daughter of union workers, I know firsthand what it means to be a product of a village. I understand the value of hard work, being committed to service and advocating for the voiceless. I am a proud HBCU graduate and fight relentlessly for fairness and equality. I have worked in the community promoting affordable housing, neighborhood revitalization and stabilization while at the same time advocating for transitional services for 2nd chance and reentry individuals. I have spent decades fighting for the homeless and bringing forth unique services resulting in thousands in homeownership services.
Political talk is cheap and has no place in local government.
My public service is focused on results that make a positive impact on our community. I’ll do the hard work necessary to combat the issues in our communities and collaborate with the other leaders to ensure our city thrives.
VISION & PRIORITIES
Transparency in Leadership
City leadership has a responsibility to the residents and taking steps to publicize city spending, hearings that require all city agencies to explain how funding is used as well as impacts to the residents are fundamental efforts to transparency leadership. I will always promote bringing forth awareness of city spending and the return on investments to our residents. These commitments and other steps in government transparency will pave the way to a more trusted city council.
Ensuring Strong Public Safety
Partnering with law enforcement is crucial to address neighborhood issues and teach residents preventative measures. From auto thefts to home break-ins and robbery, safety requires everyone’s effort. As a parent, I believe children and families deserve safe communities. We need collaboration between law enforcement, residents, community leaders, and local businesses to reclaim our streets.
Good Jobs & Economic Development
Small businesses are the anchors in neighborhoods for economic development. As Council Member, I will support small businesses by promoting grants, business opportunity bids and obtaining more economic funding, finding innovating measures to diversify the workforce, and seek other avenues to help local businesses grow and thrive.
Stronger Neighborhoods & Improving Quality of Life
Houston faces a severe housing affordability crisis, with working-class residents struggling under rising rents and constant threats of eviction. As a City Council member, I will champion the creation of affordable, safe, and dignified public housing, hold the Housing Authority fully accountable, and consistently stand up to landlords while supporting tenants in every housing matter that comes before the city.
Senior Services, Property Taxes
& Constituent Outreach
As a Houston City Council Member, I will make sure we bring forth awareness of available services to area Senior to create more affordability to thrive. Property Tax Exemptions, access to more medical services and other support resources are critical to a senior’s living expenses. I will ensure constituency outreach to bring forth awareness and access of all city services and resources promoting fairness and equality for all.
